MEET THE TEAM
DAWN M. SLOKAN
Founder
I started Virtually DAWN twelve years ago after leaving a CFO position at a large private school system. Turns out, the skills I'd built managing complex financials for education translated perfectly to helping business owners who never got any training on the business side of running a business—which is wild when you think about it.
I grew up in this area, went to West Virginia University (go Mountaineers), got my MBA from Penn State, and now live in Wexford with my daughter Alexis. I work with clients from Pittsburgh to Morgantown and beyond—mostly medical practices and 1099 healthcare workers. I get the medical world because I lived it: I helped my husband through med school applications, studying, residency, his first job, and now his practice. Medical professionals get zero business training despite running incredibly complex operations. That's where I come in.
I built the Virtually DAWN team to handle bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and tax-ready financials so business owners can focus on what they're actually good at.
I'm a QuickBooks ProAdvisor, former Excel Certification instructor, and I've worked across healthcare, education, manufacturing, and nonprofits—which basically means I've seen how finances work (or don't work) across a lot of different industries.
When I'm not nerding out over financial statements, I'm reading (60+ books a year), hosting parties, game nights, all while being very particular about coffee. My philosophy? Every business deserves a new day to do business better. Sometimes that just means having someone who keeps your books clean and returns your emails.
JOHN D. VELICEVICH
Accountant
John spent 16 years at Intel, in Chandler, AZ, as a senior process engineer in lithography after graduating from Carnegie Mellon in 2000. Turns out, the same analytical brain that optimizes semiconductor manufacturing processes is really good at untangling messy books.
He left Intel in 2016 to focus on growing a multi-state real estate business, which is where he got a crash course in company finances—the kind you get when you're suddenly responsible for tracking everything yourself. When he started doing analytical project work for Virtually DAWN, he realized he actually enjoyed this work. Now he handles full-cycle bookkeeping for select clients who appreciate someone who thinks in systems and patterns.
In his free time, he's either at the beach, in Port Aransas, TX or "working" his part-time job at an event arena in Austin, TX, where he helps guests during concerts and college basketball games. It's the perfect balance: spreadsheets during the day, live music at night.
MORGAN R. SCHENKER
Accountant
Morgan earned both her MBA and BSBA in Finance from Gannon University in Erie, PA. By day, she's an accountant for a real estate development company. By night (and weekends), she handles full-cycle bookkeeping for some of Virtually DAWN's small businesses—the ones who need someone who actually cares about getting the details right.
She's worked across insurance, banking, and even did a stint with an art museum, which means she's seen how money moves (or doesn't move) in all kinds of organizations.
Fun fact: Dawn has known Morgan since she was 9 years old—they met because Morgan assumed that since Dawn had worked in Baltimore, she must know her dad who lived in the area. (Small world logic from a 9 year old.) Years later, Morgan started doing behind-the-scenes work for Virtually DAWN and has quietly become the go-to person for clients who want consistent, reliable bookkeeping without the drama.
When she's not reconciling accounts, she's exploring National Parks and spending time with her son Wyatt. The same discipline that earned her both degrees while working multiple jobs makes her the kind of bookkeeper who doesn't miss details.
